Oskars on Burleigh

My husband and I dined at Oskars in January 2010 when we were holidaying in Burleigh Heads. We were glad we chose Oskars for our special night out without the kids. The restaurant ambience is relaxing and classy, with a very attractive and comfortable bar area for drinks. The restaurant is located next to the ocean. We sat outdoors and although all the tables right next to the ocean were taken, where we were sitting was still lovely. The service was among the best I have ever encountered. Several wait-staff checked on us during the evening. Our primary waitress was a young French woman who had only been in Australia for a few months. I could not find fault with the service. For entree I had the macadamia and coconut prawns with curry mayonnaise. While very tasty, I felt that the coconut dominated the flavour somewhat and detracted from the prawns themselves. My husband had the soup, which was a potato and leek and he said it was delicious. The bread served was tasty and freshly baked. I had a duck dish for main course, which was beautifully cooked, and my husband had steak which he said was also excellent. Dessert was a chocolate cake with spiced berries for me and trio of ice-cream and sorbet for my husband. All food was excellent, although I was sad to see no crab or bugs on the menu the night we were there. Our hot chocolate and tea were served with the dessert by request, something I always ask for and never seem to get anywhere, but our waitress managed it at Oskars. Our bill was $170 including a good bottle of wine and a few mixed drinks. If anything, the service was a little too quick, with main appearing only 5-10 minutes after entree was complete. We were in and out in 90 minutes so our only real criticism was that it could have been more leisurely. We thoroughly recommend Oskars, much more relaxed than the bustle of the Main Beach or Broadbeach dining precincts. 25/02/2010
