Stepping into any of the three Changmai Thai restaurants is like stepping into a little piece of Thailand. The authentic hand-carved furniture, the wood tableware and utensils, the array of Thai statues, and the relaxed atmosphere all add to the effect. However, it is the food that people really go for when they go to Changmai Thai.

Some of the best Thai in Queensland can be found in these spacious and welcoming restaurants. Full of flavour, but not too hot, Changmai Thai dishes are served with a smile.

Well-known locally for his flamboyant personality, owner and chef Michael Theravanish has crafted a delicious menu consisting of the traditional favourites, and a selection of more adventurous offerings.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
Be transported to Changmai with the superb Tom Yum Goong, a spicy Thai soup with prawns, flavoured with lemon grass, lime leaves, galangal, lemon juice and fresh herbs. Follow with the Prik Khing Beef, a stir fry of sliced beef with Thai curry paste, spicy sauce, bamboo shoots, beans and coconut milk seasoning. And who could go past the devine Mango Sticky Rice for dessert?

FUNCTIONS
Perfect for functions and parties, these inexpensive restaurants cater for all occasions.

PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIA
Surfers Paradise restaurant, Chiangmai Thai, holds a string of titles including Informal Dining Restaurant of the Year; Best Themed Restaurant and Best Thai Restaurant in Queensland. Restaurateurs Michael and Nopporn Theravanish and their well-trained team thrive on sharing the key ingredients of hospitality, where the service is superb, the food is sensational and each guest is welcomed as a VIP. Chiangmai Thai in Surfers Paradise’s Crown Towers has a palatial ambience created by opulent decor and furnishings. Spice things up a little and make your dining experience an extra special occasion by booking the Thai hut; a regal private enclosure within the restaurant.

This restaurant offers fine dining, Thai-style. Traditional dishes are created with reverence and presented as stunning and colourful pictures on a plate. The sophisticated selection gives diners an enormous choice with the menu offering about 100 savoury dishes and eight desserts featuring every imaginable ingredient. There are poultry and meat dishes, seafood galore and brilliant vegetarian meals. For a first time visit, the banquets are the way to go, enticing diners with a myriad of spectacular, fresh flavours. Let your tastebuds do the walking with set menus for two or more people. Chiangmai Thai serves dinner seven days a week but keep in mind that the restaurant is very popular and bookings are advised.

Chiangmai Thai Restaurants - User Reviews

Jackie Howard:

We ate here and were extremely disappointed! The food tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier. Not freshly prepared. We raved about this restaurant as we visited this a few years ago. This is certainly. Not I repeat not an award winner in our opinion. Very disappointed as it cost us $120 4 four dishes !!!!!!!review 11/01/2012

Juzza:

Wow! Awesome food and very authentic environment BUT the restaurant was let down by the service. Our entree's were served 3-4 minutes apart, the main meal was served first with the rice about 5 minutes later resulting in the both "luke warm". We had to ask for both to be reheated and it did not feel like it was a priority. Around 15 minutes later after being asked if our meal was ok, we left the table to pay the bill with dirty plates still on the table and not collected. I hope they read the reviews and learn from it.review 26/11/2011

I booked 2 months in advance to enjoy a romantic meal in oct 2011. On arrival the staff were not aware of the booking and from this point things got worse. Four different waiters, 1 starter arrived, then main meal arrived, with no curry, then the remainder of starter arrived, all the food was cold, red wine spilt on table.review 13/11/2011

Ambience - spectacular. Last May we sat in the carved elephant's chairs and dined on the best garlic beef and coconut rice I've ever had outside Malaysia. We're returning for my daughter's birthday again 31 May but this time we know we have to book, and to bring a camera!!.review 16/05/2008
