PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThis unassuming little restaurant is located in Brisbane’s West End just off the main strip and offers a slightly quieter location in which to enjoy a traditional Vietnamese or Chinese meal. The restaurant itself is small, modest and neat and the tables set with traditional, white rice bowls and chopsticks – so for those of you in need of some practice here’s your chance. Viet Hoa is owned and run by a family hailing from Ho Chi Minh city so be prepared for some authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Popular traditional Chinese dishes such as san choi bau (minced pork served on lettuce leaves) are also scattered throughout the menu.
Vietnamese cuisine is often extremely healthy, but Viet Hoa goes one step further by ensuring that all meals are MSG-free. A fun way to start is with the pork and prawn rice paper roll: delectable prawns skewered on sugar cane, shredded pork, mint leaves, shredded carrot, lettuce, cucumber and vermicelli served on a platter –
choose the ingredients you prefer, wrap into a roll and savour with the yummy dipping sauce. Try sharing a hot pot or a seafood steamboat for a main course. Viet Hoa is unlicenced, so bring a bottle of your favourite wine to enjoy with your meal.
