PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAA long-standing favourite on Milton Road, housed in a rustic timber-slat cottage, Two Small Rooms remains one of Brisbane most fondly recognised fine diners. It’s not a flashy place by any stretch, the two (yes) rooms are humbly furnished with mustard coloured walls and neatly dressed tables. There’s also a quaint little private room and a small courtyard.
Chefs have come and gone over the last 16 years, but Two Small Rooms has always delivered impressively reliable food. Matthew Whitton continues the tradition of sophisticated, European influenced fare with excellent flavours and attention to detail. The mud crab omelette has been on the menu for years and judging by its popularity it’s not going anywhere in a hurry. Elsewhere the oujons of King George whiting on warm asparagus and oyster mushroom salad and the puff pastry baked snail cream soup with garlic and fresh herbs make fine entrees that are both comforting and texturally fascinating. For mains, the bouillabaisse is a top contender, as is the barbecued duck with steamed pork dumplings, choi sum, chilli jam and spiced orange sauce.
