The Jetty

Having moved away from inner city locations to the 'burbs awhile back, I accepted an invitation to head back to Bulimba with excitement. I had heard mixed reviews about Tonic, our destination for the night, but heard that the river position was amazing, so went along not knowing what to expect... The location is truly stunning and we were greeted warmly as we arrived to learn that Tonic is now under new management. Seated at a table with river views, we recieved friendly and efficient service from Jenni, who offered us tap, sparkling or still water. (Apparently tap water was previously charged for by past owners???) The menu is concise and has something for everyone, a good choice of entrees and mains, with one of the most enticing dessert menus I have ever laid eyes on! My vegetarian companions were pleased to see that there were choices for them as well Tables filled quickly around us and by 8.00 we were surrounded by at least 50 other diners, many ferry passangers who'd decided to drop in for a meal Our bread came quickly, as did our drinks and meals, with attentive yet unobtrusive table service. Our mains were INCREDIBLE, beautifully presented, just the right size and oh so tasty (the Chicken is divine!) and the highly anticipated dessert menu lived up to its sweet promise (try the brulee...YUM!) We had to stop ourselves from plate licking! We thorougly enjoyed people watching as the ferry's arrived and departed regularly throughout a very enjoyable dining experience. The only little thing I could say detracted from my experience was the lack of background music, which was so low it was barely audible. If the new management can keep up this standard of food and service then Tonic will surely become a jewel in the crown of Brisbane town! 07/10/2007
