Concentrating on the things that matter as Brisbane’s population swelters in the subtropical heat, The Plough Inn is pioneering the way with good value, cold drinks and quality food – all with a cool shady beer garden on-site and a man-made beach less than 100 metres walk away. The all-Aussie family-owned business was bought in 2002, but the hotel itself has been standing since 1890. The Heritage Room upstairs, often used for functions, timelines the history of Southbank and The Plough Inn from the late 1800s to the present day. Having undergone some recent refurbishments, the hotel has lost nothing of its charm, and retains a heritage look with a modern twist made appropriate for the 2000 people who swarm through on an average Saturday.

The Steakhouse has a bistro buzzer service with a Byron Bay beach hotel ambience, to make sure meals and service are always keeping up with the crowds. The Plough Inn has long been recognised as a “real bloke’s pub”, with great steaks and genuinely gigantic servings of hickory-smoked pork ribs. But these days there is something for everyone, with summer salad wraps, seafood and other lighter meals available. The pub fare is fantastic too, with tapas platters, steak sandwiches, and Bees Knees battered fish and chips all still gracing the menu. The Plough Inn is also well-equipped for functions with a variety of packages and themes to choose from, making this one of those rare places where enthusiastic staff, great food, cold drinks and a central location mean a good time is always assured for patrons.
