PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIANundah Village is a cute little secret tucked away in Brisbane’s north on Sandgate Road. It was once a busy thoroughfare before the bypass was built. Now this small strip of road is still busy, but not with traffic. The previously urban area has been jazzed up and is home to a number of inviting restaurants, among them the Lounge Bistro, a homely Greek restaurant. The ambience is casual and rustic with a mish mash of old tables and chairs from different eras and bright artworks adorning the blue feature wall. Polished timber floorboards and high ceilings finish the effect.
The menu offers traditional Greek home cooking that is comfort food at its Mediterranean best. For starters a serving of dips is in order, choose from skordalia (potato and garlic dip); tzatziki, taramasalata; or melitzanosalata (eggplant Dip). Next pick your way through some of the smaller dishes such as dolmades, chargrilled baby octopus or pan-fried whitebait. If you haven’t tried it before, you must sample the saganaki (a fried Greek cheese). Mains have a number of hearty options such as moussaka (eggplant, potato and mince lasagne) or the chargrilled king prawns with tomato, fetta, basil and dill sauce.
