I’ve always been a bit sceptical about vegan cuisine; after all, there’s no sport in hunting something that can’t move. Luckily The Forest cafe has enlightened my culinary perceptions with an insight into just how creative vegetarian cuisine can be, and surprisingly for me, how popular it is also. Having carried my scepticism through the doors with me I was expecting it to be tough going, envisioning myself foraging through the menu to try and locate something that would please my traditional tastes. What I found was in fact a culinary creation that merged the different and complimentary flavours found only in the world of the vegan. An equally colourful display of people graced the tables and chairs of The Forest that night, challenging my preconceptions again.

My meal was indeed a refreshing escape from the norm, providing layers of thoughtfully blended ingredients with a uniquely earthy and wholesome all-round flavour. I wouldn’t say that this sort of cuisine would suit me nightly, but it certainly was a well-received change. One of the draw cards for me was the discovery that the menu changes daily. Another item that stood out to this virgin vegan explorer was the fact that there was a mix’n’match dish that allowed you to sample up to four different dishes with rice for a very respectable fee. No fear here if you are gluten intolerant as The Forest caters for all and sundry with a 100 per cent gluten-free guarantee.
