The Buffalo Club

I won't lie, it's not a cheap night at the pub. But it is in my top 3 dining experiences EVER. I have had quite a few degustations but this was sensational. The food was absolutely delicious and I can only describe the dessert I had as orgasmic. The wines complimented each dish perfectly and the service was as impeccable, as was the food. For an incredible night out or perhaps for a special occasion I would highly recommend The Buffalo Club. 30/07/2011

In "The Buffalo Club" Brisbane now has a restaurant that offers a truly world-class dining experience. The publicity makes great play of the fact that chef Ryan Squires trained at El Bulli in Spain and The French Laundry in California--and it's pretty clear that he paid attention! The full tasting menu that I had last week was an explosion of unexpected and flamboyant flavours--all of which just "worked". In style, the nearest thing I've experienced is Heston Blumenthal's "Fat Duck" in England--but where Blumenthal is a scientific tour de force, Squires shows a real feeling and respect for the quality ingredients he sources here in Queensland. I also had the "matched beverages" and found the wines to be a perfect accompaniment to the food--even if, in quantity, I was a bit unsteady on departure! If I had to make a minor quibble, since it's a tasting menu set daily, perhaps the front of house team should ask about food allergies--there are a couple of things my wife can't eat and, alas, both turned up on the menu. The team were very good about swapping things--but it would have been easier to sort it out in advance. However, this is a minor issue and, in my opinion, the Buffalo Club deserves to join a very short list of the world's best restaurants. If you love great food, by all mean try it...soon. 28/05/2009
