PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIASix Degrees is an attractive Indooroopilly restaurant, much-loved by locals for intimate meals on its romantic balcony, or more casual daytime eating with friends enjoying ice-cream and Belgian waffles. Opened in 2006 by owner Olivia Nguyen, the name references the concept behind the movie
Six Degrees of Separation that believes that we are all linked through chains of social connection. The restaurant seeks to match this theme by providing a pleasant social atmosphere, where people can meet friends, and friends of friends, and add to their own web of personal connections. Six Degrees, however, is also perfectly suited to those who’d rather just concentrate on that one special person. Diners seeking to book a romantic meal can call in advance and arrange for their table to be decorated with flowers for the special occasion.
The cuisine at Six Degrees has undergone considerable alteration since the restaurant opened to match its changing clientele. Although still focusing on cooking up high-quality Italian dishes, an increasing number of young international customers has led to Thai curries and Vietnamese entrées being added to the menu. Also new are the aforementioned ice-cream and Belgian waffle selections. The full Belgian breakfast with bacon has quickly become one of the café’s best-selling daytime dishes. Vegetarian and gluten-free diners are happily catered for, and the option of either BYO (wine only), or of choosing from the restaurant’s own well-stocked bar are available. Large parties of up to twenty are welcome, and can even reserve the entire scenic balcony which is hung with colourful paper lanterns and overlooks the street, perfect for those warm Brisbane evenings.
