Profiled by de Groots MediaThe Riverbend Books and Teahouse is my ultimate day out. I could easily spend most of a relaxing day here. Firstly it is located in the sophisticated stretch of Oxford Street in Bulimba, just a stone’s throw from the Brisbane River. The deck provides plenty of comfortable seating at the front of the Teahouse, surrounded by leafy greenery and forests of bamboo. The food on offer is modern Australian with some seriously tasty nosh for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is available from Wednesday to Saturday. To top it all off, and this is a real winner for me, there are lunch and dinner menus entirely dedicated to sushi! They even serve hot Japanese sake, and at different times of the year you can take a class in the art of sushi making.
Of course there are still plenty of options for the non-sushi savant, such as the sauteed Riesling chicken on spring corn fritters with avocado, sweet peppers and mango salsa. Or the Australian wild prawns and lemon myrtle with fresh fennel bulbs, caramelised onion relish and mozzarella. There are pizzas, a handful of dishes from all over Asia, as well as lamb and steak. Finally, did I mention that there is also a bookstore?
