PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAPark Road in Milton offers some great examples of cafe and stylised lunch stopovers but Onyx really got my attention. There is a guise by which some restaurants offer the idea of fine dining but sadly fail to deliver on all fronts – not so with Onyx. Upon talking with owner and manager, Neil, it is apparent how important it is to him to offer a stellar dining experience, not only food but some of the best cocktails and fine whiskeys found in Brisbane. With experience in European fine dining and service, Neil’s practiced hands infuses all facets of the restaurant and bar.
The interior is contemporary in design, with a cool and calming effect. A striking addition to the menu, and sadly not often found, is an exceptional array of tapas dishes to choose from. The diversity and focus on flavour in each of these dishes has to be tasted to be truly appreciated. I was treated to a sample of the duck pancakes with Savoy cabbage and an Asian dipping sauce that brings the flavours together brilliantly. Tapas is truly a great way to enjoy a variety of different dishes, made even more enjoyable when accompanied by one of the 80 plus cocktails available. The diverse and interesting cocktail list sets Onyx apart from neighbouring Park Road eateries. Pop in after work for a drink and some small plates or take a few hours out to unwind with friends as you graze your way through the menu.
