PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAIf food is your passion you ought to put Moray Cafe on your dining to-do list. A ferry ride and a stroll will land you in New Farm to experience the gourmet goodies that head chef Byron Aycan whips up in the kitchen. Choose to dine alfresco or head indoors to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, a long lunch or an evening feast until late. Byron’s love of food and his professional approach to his art means that even the olive oil used at Moray Cafe is the very best. All of the meat is purchased daily and sourced from the local butcher, and meals are served with a side of organic vegetables, giving diners full flavour in every mouthful. Even the gnocchi and hummus are made in-house along with the fruit tarts and cakes. Byron’s love of food began in Turkey under the influence of his father, followed by formal training in England and Europe. This chef has also worked alongside Gordon Ramsay and lived to tell the tale.
With seating for up to 70 guests, Moray Cafe caters for those dropping in for a coffee and slice of cake to folks after a more substantial meal. Breakfasts are hearty and lunches start at $6.50 for soup. Keep hunger at bay with a pan-fried organic chicken breast with char-grilled eggplant and vine-ripened tomatoes. Kids will love making a mess of the Swiss meatballs before helping you with your dessert – try the rhubarb crumble with warm English custard for a sweet treat.
