PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIATurkish food is one of the most delicious and healthy cuisines in the world. At Mado Cafe and Restaurant, the kitchen is opening diners’ eyes to traditional dishes that have been handed down through generations. The food’s authenticity is evident in the fact that many dishes simply can’t be found on the menus of Brisbane’s other Turkish restaurants. For instance, Mado’s ice-cream, which is eaten with a knife and fork, is made from goat’s milk and salep – a wild orchid tuber said to be an aphrodisiac. While popular in Turkey, this delicious delicacy can only be found in one other city in Australia.
Mado’s flavoursome meals are based on simple, fresh ingredients, such as sun-ripened vegetables and the finest selection of meats, and the restaurant takes special care to source the most authentic ingredients available. The combination of extra-virgin olive oils with herbs and spices like basil, oregano, mint, cumin and sumac fill the restaurant with the most wonderful aromas. All is on display in the delicious mixed grill platter, which features a selection of halal lamb and chicken shish and cutters, cooked over a char-grill and served with salad and rice. Exotic food products and gifts are on display for sale opposite the reception area.
