PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAAh licorice. There is nothing quite like a dark soft twist of sweet licorice to spice up your mouth. And there is nothing better than Liquorish Bistro and Bar to spice up your culinary life and tantalise your tastebuds. Jason Coats’ newest venture is located on Bulimba’s Oxford Street and is causing a stir among the locals who, judging by the numbers that have been regularly filling the tables, seem to have wholly embraced it. The ambience is sleek and sophisticated with stylish furnishings, subdued lighting and dark colours. The service too is professional and swift, with a front-of-house team that have a serious attitude towards ensuring your visit is an enjoyable one.
Liquorish has a relaxed ambience and is equally adept at providing seriously good tapas over a late afternoon drink, or a fine dining experience over a romantic evening. The tapas menu offers some superb choices such as the sand crab tart with sweet corn puree and watercress salad, or the braised wagyu beef pudding with pickled beetroot, red wine jus and French walnut oil. For mains try the brioche and basil-encrusted barramundi fillet served with warm potato salad and smoked tomato and leek sauce. Or for a more hearty dish that will have you groaning, the slow roast duck with twice baked cheese souffle, green beans, cherry relish and pinot noir jus will hit the spot.
