PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIABulimba these days has a variety of places to eat and drink at, ranging from high-end fine diners to fun family restaurants, and a diverse range of ethnic eateries. La Quinta is unique in that it is the only Mexican restaurant and bar located in the lovely Oxford Street dining precinct. This is a great spot to relax, have a drink and a cheap meal before heading out on the town. Also handy for a fun family outing, La Quinta has a bright interior and caters for the ninos (pronounced neen-yoes), which is Spanish for “children”.
The menu and ambience is fairly typical Mexicana, with bright colours, a fun vibe and quite a pinch of spice. Most meals are aimed at the spice-novice, but for those who like it hot just ask the staff and the chef will add some of those Habenero chillies that impart such a distinctive and intense flavour to Mexican cuisine. There are many dips to start with including mango salsa with onion, lime and sweet chilli. The usual suspects are available, such as burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas (soft flour tortillas) and fajitas. But there are also some traditional lesser-knowns such as albondigas – a kind of Mexican meatball cooked in spicy sauce and served on rice. Top it all off with a margarita from the bar, and you’re set for a good night out.
