PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAKrishna’s Cafe, sister restaurant to Govinda’s Restaurant Brisbane city, serves pure Hare Krishna food prepared by people devoted to the Hare Krishna religion, but eaten by people from all walks of life. What does that mean, you may ask? Well, followers of Hare Krishna believe that the food they serve is good for the body, soul and consciousness. The meals are pure vegetarian and vegan meals, so they are free of eggs, meat, onion and garlic, the latter two of which increase the mood of passion in the body.
Non-followers may also partake of the nutritious and feel-good fare, so pop by the cafe, which located upstairs in a relaxing room overlooking Boundary Street and open to everyone. Here you may sample the delicious meals on offer from the buffet that changes daily for $8 per person. They serve rice, vegetable curries (such as the chickpea, spinach, tomato and potato curry), dahl, papadums and vegetable kofta. They also offer desserts such as halva (a semolina pudding served with custard), all washed down with a delicious and refreshing homemade lemon, mint and ginger drink.
