LOCATIONOn busy Boundary Street in West End.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThe attraction of Jackpot Noodles is first and foremost its value for money; complete meals for one are available for less than $7, but invite five or six of your closest friends and see real value when your entire bill, including alcoholic drinks, is comfortably covered by three red bank notes. Originally opened as a small 20-seat space across the road from the casino (hence the name “Jackpot”), the noodle bar has expanded to four licensed venues, all successfully offering a mix of cheap, quick, healthy Asian meals. This latest outpost, in the university student hotspot of West End, is the jewel in the Jackpot crown.
Obviously successful and therefore profitable, the erstwhile owners of the Jackpot concept have not rested on their laurels with the fit-out of their flagship shopfront. High ceilings adorned with plasma televisions and Asian-inspired modern prints are offset by a parquet floor and lime green upholstery. The space is clean, modern and comfortable, unlike many of the restaurant’s direct competitors. The menu is split into quick picks, stir fries, and chef’s specialties that stretch the budget to a hefty $9.80 per dish. All items are clearly marked for heat and gluten free and the menu includes vegetarian options as well. The drink selection is cheap and very cheerful with a complete selection of beers, wines and alcopops available at prices not much higher than the bottle shop.
