PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAOne of Brisbane’s most seductive brasseries, Isis is as beautiful as the goddess for which she is named; her softly lit dining room in polished black and white, awash with an air of casual glamour. Downstairs, the “Cave” is dark and sensuous, dominated by a steely bar and segregated into intimate dining and drinking spaces.
On one end cushioned banquettes and small round tables glow under the down-lights, and there’s a long communal table, curtained off for functions.
Having trained under the legendary Michael Bourdon of the Connaught, London, Jason Peppler is among the cream of Brisbane’s European chefs. A relatively young chef, Peppler exhibits a great pride and understanding of classical technique, yet his menu has continued to show refreshing inventiveness and contemporary finesse. Entrees include assiette of wagyu beef served with red wine and parmesan sorbet. For mains, sample the South Australian venison with roasted beetroot, fennel remoulade, and blood orange dressing, or Patagonian Toothfish dolce forte with radicchio, olive, and pine nut salad. Isis’ desserts are divine. Try the “deconstructed” strawberry and white chocolate bombe alaska. The basement dining area doubles as a cellar, with the impressive wine racks visible as you descend the stairs. The vast collection of sought-after labels will have connoisseurs in raptures. Isis has scored a phenomenal number of awards since its opening, and deservedly so.
