Harvey's is bucking the trend. This relaxed little bistro in Fortitude Valley is the heart of the James Street Precintint. The diverse menu is defined by the expertise of local celebrity chef, PJ McMillan.

Whether it is the spice mince tortilla and avocado for breakfast, the Famous Asian chicken salad, or the best local fish cooked to perfection, PJ's Harveys fills a yawning chasm in the market and covers a wide spectrum of unsatisfied yearnings.

Though under cover, the dining area has an alfresco feel, which is achieved by glass walls and modern horizontal slat windows.

Prominent as a major show piece in Brisbane’s gallery of dining, it delivers a marvellous eating experience with simplicity and skill as the secret. The broad spectrum of patrons come for the straightforward yet superb food which covers near all dining experiences, and this variety is matched by a pleasing wine selection. Take last night's date to a breakfast of ricotta buttermilk pikelets amid caramelised banana and honeycomb butter. Or treat your mother to wild mushrooms and lentils on toast, topped with lemon and grilled halloumi. You might not be as happy to share your asparagus, ricotta and spinach omelettes with a lashing of spiced roasted tomato sauce.


Chef McMillian has mastered a consistent quality of utterly delicious creations. Humble recipes that don't try too hard allow the flavours to stand for themselves. This is the charm of honest food which swallows like home meals. The dishes are simple while still managing to make magic. There are artfully flavoursome entrees such as the Asian chicken salad tossed with toasted coconut, peanuts, coriander, chilli and fresh lime. The light risotto with seared scallops, zucchini, tomato and pancetta in a zesty lemon oil is also a perfect starter. Brilliantly executed from the selection of mains is the barbecued lamb rump with pot-roasted fennel, green olives and shallot jam. Harvey's is a natural in the business of dining out, and will exceed your standards with its casual elegance.
