Golden Sun offers a unique Asian dining experience with brazen red and gold decor and friendly, attentive wait staff in traditional Chinese garb. The chef was trained by a highly regarded Hong Kong chef, at a time where all training was done in the kitchen. The restaurant offers a standard Chinese menu with all the usual favourites, but the owners have introduced a unique Vietnamese menu not available elsewhere in the Redlands. Start with the Saigon spring rolls of prawns wrapped in rice paper with mung bean vermicelli, shredded Chinese mushroom and a lemon fish sauce. It’s nothing like a Chinese spring roll, but is tasty, light and beautifully presented.

Moreton Bay bugs are always in demand by customers; Bill puts together a salt and pepper Moreton Bay bug that is simple, crispy, salty and sweet. It’s served over a bed of lettuce, and needs no more accompaniment. For dessert I love the fried ice cream – the combination of warm, crunchy coconut topping with creamy, icy vanilla ice cream underneath is irresistible. The food comes fast but customers are not left wanting for attention, service is one area in which the staff here excel. Yet takeaways can be ready in as little as five minutes and during peak times, in less than 20. Celebrating 25 years in the industry, owner/chef Bill Yin is still as passionate as ever about his traditional cuisine. What better way to share your culture than through the enjoyment of good food and wine?
