LOCATIONSprawled out in a Brisbane city courtyard on George Street.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThe hottest addition to the Brisbane city restaurant scene, Firefly, manages to be exclusive and modern without becoming tiresome. Instead it is interesting and charismatic. The menu, a hint of Italian fussed with modern Australian, aims to keep things basic, staying sensible in the confines of one thoughtful page. Turkish toast and dark, robust coffee compose a simple breakfast, as does an uncomplicated two-egg omelette with fresh sliced leg ham, mozzarella and toasted sough dough. For lunch and dinner the collection of pizzas come with crispy-thin bases and simple, concise toppings. Must-tastes include the “polo” which features a barbecue base, char-grilled chicken breast, mushrooms and Spanish onion and the “casaiofi” with Shaw River buffalo mozzarella and grilled artichoke hearts on a divine tomato base.
Firefly is simply fantastic at lunch when its seemingly endless, unhindered space mixes with the warm Queensland breeze to become an escape from the concrete jungle of the city. Afternoons and early evenings transform the space into a sophisticated yet approachable scene for dinner and drinks that mixes a casual vibe with a touch of class. For the drinking patrons Firefly has an attractive wine selection, a detailed beer list as well as a fancy beverage menu to impress.
