PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIACeltic Corner is located in a spot that is far from anything one would see in Ireland. You will find no dull grey skies and pouring rain here, but rather a tropical clime and a short walk to a beautiful stretch of azure blue sea. Far from Ireland, Celtic Corner is perched up a hillside in Manly not far from Moreton Bay. Taking full advantage of an old Queenslander, it is decked out in warm yellows and filled with antique curios such as ancient telephones, an enormous old clock and even a jukebox.
Food-wise, Celtic Corner has a sturdy menu that steers clear of the stodgy food that some Irish pubs fall back on. Instead, it has embraced what I like to call the Queensland way. Whiting fillets are on offer for starters, as is the good old steak sandwich or a Caesar salad. Of course, it wouldn’t be Irish unless it served a beef and Guinness pie, which is accompanied by a tasty garlic mash and peas. The warm Moroccan salad consists of tender slices of rib fillet tossed in Moroccan spices and served on salad greens with fresh herb vinaigrette. Other highlights are the garlic chicken and Thai style barramundi. Finish the meal in true Irish fashion with a nip of Scotch, of which there are many to choose from.
