PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIADespite its award-winning status – having being named the best pizza restaurant in Brisbane by Vogue magazine – Capri remains somewhat of a hidden secret, wedged between two outfits of higher profile. This little battler maintains its very high standards while promoting a relaxed, informal vibe that perfectly sets off a menu packed with classic favourites. The list is highlighted, of course, by the pizzas but is in no way let down by its risottos or pastas.
The large, rectangular space is neatly divided into alfresco and indoor dining, the outside offering excellent views of the beautiful people strolling past The Emporium’s monolithic water features. Inside, the decor is modern yet warm, with chocolate overtones and no trace of the nostalgia often associated with Italian dining. The menu is traditional Italian with modern Australian twists, which take advantage of our fresh seafood – try the sand crab, scallops and prawns. The risottos, while simply done and not overly impressive on the plate, are supremely cooked with deep flavours and outstanding texture. I’m told the pizza chef was trained in some of the great pizza kitchens of Naples, and it certainly shows. The pizzas, which use freshly made dough and are dressed with traditional ingredients and excellent produce, are exceptional.
