Unless you were paying attention, you could easily miss the fact that Campari is actually attached to the Fox Hotel, in effect a pub restaurant. However, there are no dingy corners smelling of stale beer or plates of food dripping with grease; none of that has any place at the sophisticated space that is Campari. Located on a street corner, Campari is afforded a generous amount of footpath from which you can enjoy a spot of sun with your meal. Or proceed into the restaurant proper that has an antique Italian feel to it, with gilded smoked mirrors, dark wooden furniture and a rich orange banquette lining each wall.

The menu is one of fairly standard gastro-pub fare, except it does have a twist of Italian influence throughout. For starters the beef carpaccio served with rocket and shaved parmesan is certainly left of centre. Or the signature crisp duck salad with baby beetroot, rocket and Campari orange dressing illustrates some creative fires burning in the kitchen. Steaks feature heavily on the menu with quality cuts of meat such as the Wagyu rib fillet, 340 day grain-fed from the Darling Downs. Seafood lovers are not overlooked with a selection of interesting choices such as the Moreton Bay bug cannelloni served with a roast tomato sauce and lemon aioli.
