PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIACafe Citrus is one of the more popular cafes located in Bulimba’s Oxford Street. This laidback and sophisticated suburb is downriver of the city and easily reached by ferry. Stroll up the tree-lined main street and halfway up, opposite the cinema, you will find a brightly coloured cafe brimming with people enjoying a spot of sun and a good meal on the terrace. Cafe Citrus has a bright and cheerful feel to it, just as the name would suggest. Relax and enjoy a simple coffee, a hearty breakfast, a long lunch or a candle-lit dinner.
The menu is mostly simple fare, with a couple of more interesting options available for lunch and dinner. For entrees there are both casual selections such as chargrilled chicken Caesar salad, as well as some more enticing choices like barbecued lamb medallions served with a beetroot and orange salad and smoked eggplant dressing. The dinner menu is much more impressive; offering a number of Italian and Asian touches with the eye fillet, lamb shanks and a highlight of barramundi with green olive and macadamia crust, zucchini batons, Kipfler potatoes, roast Roma tomatoes and sorrel aioli. While the service can sometimes be a bit slow due to the restaurant always being so popular and busy, the overall experience is worthwhile and enjoyable.
