PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAJust over a year of operation and Biagio has already been the recipient of Best New Restaurant and Best Italian Restaurant in the 2008 Restaurant and Catering Brisbane Awards. It's not hard to see why. With an emphasis on seafood, chef Biagio Biuso puts great effort into preparing fresh quality seafood, Sicilian and pasta dishes, and rich Italian desserts - all of which are generous for the price. Biuso creates innovative but authentic specials, and plate after plate of tantalising fare make their way from the kitchen into the restaurant. The dessert menu changes daily, so be sure to ask the waitstaff about the treat of the moment.
The restaurant is smart, elegant and dressed up to the nines. With its views of the charming nooks and crannies of suburban Red Hill, Biagio is the perfect location for a long lunch with good company. Co-owner Sarah Biuso boasts tables are double the size of those in other restaurants, so needless to say, the dining space is very comfortable with lots of room for elbows and lively hand gestures. The Biusos are not interested in a high turnover, but rather focus on creating a space for people to settle in and enjoy a night of good food, wine and conversation. The degustation menu has to be the pick of meals, with a selection from the mouth-watering menu - seafood, bruschetta, pasta, meat and fish dishes all topped off with desserts, tea and coffee.
