Profiled by de Groots MediaStepping through the front entrance of Batavia is like stepping back in time and into another world. With a decadent atmosphere that combines eastern and western old world charm, you could be back in the 1800s in colonial Jakarta. Batavia features white wicker chairs and matching glass-topped tables, intricate hard wood panelling and soft light cast from antique chandeliers. It is cosy and charming, offering high tea but also featuring a number of items for sale. Start your visit off by browsing through elaborate hardwood day beds, ornate urns and delicate cloths.
The menu is a tome, ensconced in black and gold fabric featuring a serious attitude towards tea of all kinds. The range of delicious teas spans the globe, offering choices as diverse as Turkish Apple and Chinese Gunpowder, all served in pristine china sets that make you feel like royalty. To accompany your tea there are delicious dainties such as warm pastries with a trio of dipping sauces or toasted croissants. For the sweet tooths among you there are a huge variety of cakes, petite delights and gourmet cookies. To finish off, the front counter boasts a selection of handmade Belgian chocolates made from quality couverture that melt in the mouth.
