LOCATIONOn the corner of Felix and Mary Streets in Brisbane’s CBD, Barolo is a quick walk from the city and easily accessible by car or public transport.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIASlightly removed from the hum-drum hustle and bustle of the city, Barolo is like an imagined oasis. Vine leaves and exotic flowers fall from pots hanging from the ceiling of an outdoor dining area, while underneath this canopy, afternoon coffee drinkers postpone going back to the office. Inside, white linen tablecloths suggest a classy evening meal destination, and wine racks host bottle after bottle of Italian wine Barolo – from where the restaurant takes its name. Washed-out lilacs and dull lime greens, and sturdy wooden and sharp metallic decor, bring parts of the courtyard inside, while also maintaining a contemporary and fresh atmosphere. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday, Barolo has an enticing range of Italian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
The hand-rolled ribbon pasta with Queensland scallops, sand crab, chilli and garlic is a continually popular choice. Other culinary delights on offer include warm white anchovy salsa on a pan-fried crepe roulade with pickled pineapple, capers and white polenta, and antipasto of cured meats, seafood, grilled vegetables and pressed tomato and basil terrine. Inside, sophisticated, and outside, quaint and sub-tropical, Barolo is a runaway CBD success. The restaurant attracts an entirely different crowd at dinner-time and is a popular Saturday breakfast hangout too. An extravagant dining affair for any time of the day or night, Barolo is certainly worth a visit.
