PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIARun by the owners of Darwin’s popular Thailicious, Thai Thai is a more modest establishment with a less spicy and specialised cuisine than its city sister. Situated outside Casuarina shopping centre in the northern suburbs, Thai Thai serves consistently good food, take away and home deliveries. The restaurant’s vivid fuschia and teal paintwork compliments its simple cane seating. Nice touches include handpainted artworks and the ever-serene golden buddha with candle and flower offerings at his feet. Thai Thai is an easy spot for a quick meal with parking outside the door.
Classic entrees such as crunchy spring rolls, curry puffs, and angel prawns can all be found on the menu. For something a little more authentic try the tangy tom yum soup flavoured with lemongrass and lime leaves. The mains selection covers noodles, laksa, and stirfries. Thai curries are a specialty here and can be ordered in the full spectrum of flavours from yellow, red, green, choo chee, penang, and massaman. Seafood, meats and tofu can be added as optional extras to any of the dishes if you feel like being creative with your choices. The seafood dishes of salt and pepper squid, and crispy fish fillet are also delectable decisions and can be served with any sauce. The crying tiger is a specialty that cannot be missed which serves finely sliced barbecued steak with a special chilli sauce. For something a little lighter order a Thai salad which has a lime zest. If you get inspired by the aromas of the kitchen you can also create your own ‘Noodle Delight’ to take away by selecting a noodle type, meat or tofu, and your favourite cuisine flavour from the choice of Thai, Chinese, Singapore, Japanese or Malaysian. Thai Thai is a humble eatery of crisp flavours that still possesses the quality of its more upmarket equivalent.
