PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThai Thai Restaurant in Casuarina is a renowned south-east Asian dining institution among Darwin locals, and rightly so. Offering a genuine Thai (and Malay) culinary experience, Thai Thai manages to keep its prices low – certainly well below the plethora of similarly themed restaurants within the CBD – making the journey out to the northern suburbs to taste its smorgasbord of enticing dishes more than worth your while.
The menu has recently been overhauled - the previous bill of fare had, if anything, too many options. It’s been simplified and cut down without compromising the variety of flavoursome dishes, meaning diners still have the ability to choose a wide range of delicious and wholly different dishes to enjoy. The restaurant is well known for its Crying Tiger – beautifully tender marinated beef grilled and served with a sweet dipping sauce, and the duck curry, a scrumptious spicy red coconut curry with juicy pieces of lean and tender duck. Even standard Thai staples such as green chicken curry are cooked with flair – this particular dish is sweeter, tastier and a sight spicier than is the norm. The freshness of the ingredients, and the chef’s care for Thai flavour is evident in any dish you will sample. The restaurant itself has a relaxed, friendly dining room, perfect for enjoying good food with good friends. Thai Thai is BYO, and open seven nights a week.
