PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIALocals reckon that Rendezvous Cafe lives up to its claim to the best Malaysian laksa in town. Yes, it’ll make you sweat, but air-con keeps you cool as you imbibe that full-bodied chilli-hot flavour! For laksa novices; if you have a taste for spices you’ll love this generous bowl of coconut spicy soup served with lashings of noodles, homemade sambal paste, tofu, chopped chillies and spring onions and your choice of chicken, barbecue pork, beef, veg, seafood or a combination.
Rendezvous is easy to miss so keep those eyes peeled for signposts as you trawl the mall. This cute cafe is tucked away in a leafy courtyard down a small arcade. Furnished with vintage-style booths and chairs, the friendly service and Asian mood music make it a pleasant place for a meal. Other Asian dishes on offer include beef rendang, gado gado, red and green curries and
nasi lemak (a surprising combination of stewed beef, coconut rice, anchovies, peanuts and a fried egg). For a snack, try the sesame prawn toasts or mini samosas. Classic desserts include fried ice-cream and
gula malaka (sweet sago pudding stewed with pandan leaf). Not in the mood for Asian? Rendezvous also serves coffees, teas, brekkie and toasted sandwiches. Hot breakfast specials include eggs cooked as you like them and French toast with golden syrup.
