PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIASpecialising in Malaysian and Thai style meals this small cafe has a reputation for serving some of the best Malaysian style laksa in Darwin. The menu includes soups, noodle and rice dishes, and light snacks such as samosa, fried wontons, sesame prawn toast and spring rolls. The main meal selection includes gado gado, curries, satays, nasi lemak and sambol prawns, chicken, barramundi or squid. There is also a selection of Thai style meals including chilli prawns, stir fried dishes, musaman beef and pandang chicken. Along with the comprehensive menu selection there are also regular specials and a selection of homemade cakes including banana loaf and gula malaka.
The decor is rather funky with 1960s style, narrow, wooden booth seating with a scattering of tables and benches and a couple of small tables outside in the courtyard.
While the cafe can become quite cramped when full, the friendly and efficient service of the staff more than compensates. The Rendezvous Cafe is not licensed and charges a modest corkage fee per person. Beverages on offer include espresso coffee, jasmine green tea, iced lemon tea, soft drinks, juices and milkshakes. There is a separate takeaway menu for those on the run.
