The Palmerston Tavern is a traditional bar and restaurant that does away with any pretensions, preferring to serve up large portioned counter-style meals at very reasonable rates. The dining area is large, open plan and next to a well-stocked bar with a large selection of beers on tap and quite an impressive variety of wine. There’s a real family atmosphere lingering in the restaurant – it’s a place where kids as well as mum and dad can feel at ease and enjoy a great dinner.

The menu is varied and contains steaks, pastas, seafood and burgers (there’s a special kids menu as well), but the Tavern keeps its punters coming back with nightly specials. Wednesday is schnitzel night, where plate-sized schnitzels are brought out en-masse; Thursday is steak night, celebrating all things beef; while Friday is prawn night where $10 gets you a bowl of prawns served with your favourite dipping sauce. Saturday is always packed as the entire menu is half price, making it the perfect night to indulge on treats such as fresh oysters, or the Tavern’s famous “Mad Cow Platter” – a plate stacked with a rump steak, garlic prawns and a battered fish fillet. Sunday sees a traditional roast lunch being served, making it a very pleasant way indeed to spend Sunday afternoon – with the family, a cool drink and a good meal.
