Profiled by deGroots MediaDee Why’s Wockbar is moving up in the world, but the prices remain firmly grounded in the cheap and cheerful category. In spanking new premises just 13 doors down from its old home, the restaurant can now be found one level up from the street, where a spacious balcony decked out with gorgeous Balinese day beds boasts expansive views of Dee Why beach and foreshore. The main restaurant floor has also grown, with large communal tables running the length of the dining room and more than a few private tables. The familiar black and red colour scheme – smart red stools, sleek black tables and bright red light shades – remains.
Thankfully, the food at Wockbar hasn’t changed either, still serving up an enticing combo of street foods from all over Asia. The Vietnamese chicken noodle salad (rice noodles topped with char grilled chicken, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, Asian herbs and peanuts) is a standout, and the tender beef Rendang is equally good. A special menu will keep the kids happy while adults enjoy a glass of wine from the limited selection or BYO. Despite its glitzy makeover, good food at cheap prices is what Wockbar continues to do best – the rest is just a bonus.
