DETAILSWine Odyssey Australia opened in November 2008 with a mission of creating Australia’s first wine and food experience bar and a world first showcase for independent Australian wineries. Burgeoning wine lovers are able to discover a richer dimension in their wine experience - through a Wine Bar, Aroma Room and Tasting Theatre - Wine Odyssey Australia has introduced the rarely tasted treasures of Australian wine and the distinctive winemakers behind them, broadening wine awareness, expanding wine vocabulary, and ultimately deepening appreciation of and desire for premium Australian wine. Wine Odyssey have scoured the country to find the best premium Australian wines from the very best independent, boutique winemakers. It was an amazing journey and now you can experience it too, in the comfort of their heritage listed dining rooms in The Rocks.
AROMA ROOM AND TASTING THEATREAroma Room and Tasting Theatre offers Australia’s premier wine appreciation experience. You’ll expand your wine vocabulary and taste six world-class Australian wines - including the World’s Greatest Shiraz - as you are guided on screen by the winemakers who made them.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAObsessed with wine? No I mean, really obsessed? You’ll be happy to know we’ve found a place just for you. The recently opened Wine Odyssey, housed within what was once the historic 1886 British Seaman’s Hotel, has been developed to take wine appreciation to a whole new level. Apart from its “journey room” which offers “taste-,” “half-” and “full-” glasses from a selection of 44 Australian wines, an “aroma room” which introduces the 50 aromas associated with wine, and a “tasting theatre” which hosts wine appreciation and tasting courses, the Wine Odyssey is also a spectacular place to grab a bite to eat.
Set across several rooms, each ingeniously decorated to represent the original 19th century charm of the building (with a contemporary twist); the Wine Odyssey offers a delicious a la carte menu based around its wine selection. However, while meals such as roasted beef medallions, eucalyptus mash, green beans and escargot butter make this bill of fair close to irresistable, a more quirky – and tempting – addition to the menu comes in the form of “wine flights”. Covering five categories (sparkling, white, red, vegetarian mixed and dessert), wine flights are the combination of three specially selected wines and three entrée-sized meals. In addition, everything on the menu is sourced locally, and the extensive wine list often features selections from the less-known Australian estates and wineries. And – you’ll be pleased to know – once you’ve discerned your favourite drop, you can purchase it from the Wine Odyssey’s own bottle store.
