Sitting pretty on Sydney’s latest eat street is Wah Wah Lounge, a friendly and funky cafe smack bang in the middle of the bustling hub that is Waterloo’s foodie precinct. Simply oozing contemporary style, Wah Wah Lounge is a buzzing spot for a quick coffee, hearty breakfast or leisurely lunch and the locals just love it. Wallpaper aficionados will appreciate the feature wall which sports an expanse of original 1970’s geometric print wallpaper from Holland, but be warned; looking at it for too long can begin to send your eyes a little loopy, especially after one or two vinos from the Wah Wah wine list.

Brett Waddell, formerly of Nick’s Seafood and Tharen’s Restaurant, is the man rattling the pans in the kitchen, dishing up food that is quite a step up from your usual cafe fare. The menu is an eclectic blend of modern Australian nosh with a colourful international influence. Breakfast is served until midday each day; the brekkie trifle offers a sweet take on an old favourite. The bruschetta with poached free-range eggs, roast tomato, basil and parmesan is another deliciously different way to start your day. The lunch menu offers an inventive blend of dishes with enough flavours to satisfy even the pickiest of appetites, and the daily specials menu puts Waddell’s time at Nick’s to good use with a couple of fresh seafood options. With its cheery vibe and equally cheery staff, Wah Wah Lounge has got plenty to go wah-wah about.
