Velero is the new kid on the oh-so-coveted Woolloomooloo Wharf strip which is renowned for hosting some of Sydney’s most desirable restaurants. Its facade blends in stylishly with its neighbours; however Velero has veered into new territories sporting a menu which dabbles with Spanish expressions. With an outlook as enviable as this, your attention may be distracted by the anchored vessels, the sparkling harbour, or indeed, the inexplicably beautiful people who tootle on by. That said, the menu has no difficulty in rivalling for an audience, which combines fresh produce with the tastes of gourmet Europe.
Tapas bars facilitate a light meal where groups can dine upon Spanish delights such as cured meats and imported cheeses accompanied with a sherry or European wine. Snack on plates of roast dates with gorgonzola and mascarpone wrapped in pancetta or kingfish ceviche with crispy capers, herbs, lemon and olive oil. If hunger gets the better of you and you crave a whole meal to yourself, take a seat at an outdoor table with a view where there are plenty of delicious home-made dishes to choose from. No matter where you’re positioned, the sommelier is always on hand if some guidance is required in the viticultural department. So, the only thing left to do is sit back, uncork a crisp Spanish white and let the sea breeze ruffle your napkin.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
VELERO on Woolloomooloo Wharf will embark your senses on a culinary tour of provincial Spain. Set sail with the fresh alluring flavours matched with a generous list of imported and local wines. The menu changes daily and seasonally, although a staple food is the gourmet range of Tapas available. Head Chef Craig McFarland, formerly Head Chef at The Tilbury and Senior Sous Chef of A Tavola Restaurants, has created a simple yet delicious menu.
Main courses in the dining area start at $27.5 and include Paella: Spanish Rice with chorizo, prawns, mussels, clams, saffron & chilli, Wagyu Beef Cheeks with brocollini, potato, crispy onions, sherry & truffle honey and Roast Wild Barramundi with chorizo, roast peppers, chickpeas, herbs & olive oil, just to name a few. Tapas can be shared overlooking the harbour, at the bar, or on communal tables in the centre of VELERO. The Tapas menu starts at $9.50, with items ranging from Crispy Pork Belly with white bean puree, red pepper & onion jam, Albondigas: Veal & Pork Meatballs with tomato, peppers & herbs, and King Prawns wrapped in Jamon with shaved fennel & olive oil. Imported cured meats are freshly sliced on a traditional Berkel Italian slicer, which is featured at the end of the Tapas bar. Meats include Finoccio Salami, Jamon Serrano, Revilla, and Jamon Iberico. The meats can be accompanied by house made breads, and a range of imported cheeses including a Manchego - Sheep Milk from Los Lianos Lamancha in Spain, and Murcia al Vino - Goat Milk from Murcia in Spain.
