A destination for those in pursuit of hedonistic delights, the chic ArtHouse Hotel has been at the epicentre of all things beautiful and bohemian since 1830 when it was home to the Sydney School of Arts. Though it had fallen into disrepair by the 1920s, the heritage-listed building was restored to its former glory in 1999 and has been a star on the vibrant Sydney social scene ever since. Tucked away within the pleasure-chest that is the Arthouse Hotel, is Dome Restaurant and Lounge, an opulent space in which to drink and dine. Within its beautifully ornate ceilings and large arched windows which introduce an abundance of natural light, the menu commands as much respect as the surroundings in which it is enjoyed.

Both a restaurant and gallery, the Dome has dedicated every available foot of wall space to an ever-changing array of visual art. At first glance, you might imagine some difficulty in focusing on your plate while so many canvases vie for your attention. But head chef, Tim Michels and his kitchen team produce such arresting Italian-influenced dishes that they are works of art themselves. With the iconic Franca Manfredi responsible for the home-made pasta and gnocchi on the menu, you’d be mad to pass up the pink-eye potato gnocchi with grilled prawns and sage brown butter, or the handmade linguini with wild mushroom ragu. Make a move to one of the Arthouse’s bars for a cocktail after your meal or dance off your dinner to some sexy sounds within Verge Bar downstairs.
