PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThai Nine is just the sort of place you will want to put on your list of restaurants to visit during the warmer months. With its prime positioning within Mosman’s leafy Myahgah Mews, Thai Nine boasts a buzzy atmosphere that is greatly enhanced by the spacious and softly-lit courtyard. It’s perfect for al fresco dining on those warm summer evenings. If the weather is not up to scratch, the sheers can be rolled down to ensure that diners and their fragrant Thai feasts stay nice and dry, though there is also a cosy dining area inside and the option of take-away if you prefer to remain couch-bound.
Managed by the same team as Castlecrag’s Bai Yok, the menu is full of traditional favourites that highlight the flavours of Thailand with flair. Begin with the Mieng scallops, grilled and spiced up with roasted coconut, shredded lime, Spanish onion and ginger, and served on betel leaves with a palm sugar relish. The quail, marinated in garlic, black pepper and herbs is another bright spot on the menu. For a Thai-inspired version of that classic Aussie favourite, surf and turf, try the crackling fish: stir fried ling fillets with red chilli basil and pork crackling served on steamed bok choy. Thai Nine don’t mind if you bring along your own bottle of wine, but they have a lovely list of drops to accompany your meal.
