PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAAh just the thing Paddington needed! It has its Hatted wonders and its cosy cafes, now it has a budget-friendly takeaway joint to satisfy the locals. A very recent addition to Oxford Street’s buzzing strip of boutiques, Thaina Box presents a fast, healthy option for the budget conscious. Rest weary shoppers’ feet or nip in for a quick dinner, where all the well-loved favourites sit alongside a “design your dish” option. Look beyond the bright orange and blue exterior to find a long, narrow dining room. Black and white shapes swirl about on grey wallpaper while mirrors give an illusion of space; orange lanterns sway above the small wooden tables that line the walls.
Thaina Box achieves its “healthy food fast” motto by pumping out fresh Thai stir-fries, curries and salads from 11am to late, seven days a week. Starting with its Bondi Beach eatery 10 years ago, Thaina Box has since expanded to a second store in Parramatta and now to a third restaurant in Paddington. Lunch sees a host of great specials, ensuring the menu is both palate and purse-friendly. The Thaina Box menu offers all the classics, from curry puffs to pad Thai to jungle curry and Thai beef salad. Dishes vary in spiciness, so be sure to check the heat rating on the menu. Those after a spicy kick should tuck into the chilli basil stir-fry; fresh chilli and Thai basil give every mouthful of crispy vegetables an extra zing. Discerning diners can opt for the “design your dish” option; simply nominate your preferences and the kitchen staff will rustle it up for you. Pop into the conveniently located bottle shop next door to make use of Thaina Box’s BYO policy. Alternatively, order a speedy takeaway or have your meal delivered.
