SumBar

Four of us dined at SumBar on a Tuesday night for $8 tapas specials. It's cute and cosy and the tapas comes out gradually not all at once, which was great because it gave us chance to sample quite a few jugs of the white & red sangria. We had prawns, pork belly, potatoes, clams, chorizo and lots of bread to mop up the sauces. It really was great for a casual friends get together and very reasonable. It was also great to have live music in the background too. 7/10 tapas and 10/10 sangria. 24/06/2009

SumBar wine bar + tapas is a little piece of Barcelona on Frenchmans Road at Randwick. Only new to the area they have already established themselves as a great local whole in the wall. It seems everyone knows someone in SumBar. The staff are known by name to patrons and its nice to see that the staff also remember the locals. The front bar of SumBar is where I hung out with a friend. We sampled some great wines from around the globe by the glass. Its nice to see someone who makes the effort to place as many wines by the glass as possible on the wine list, and some exotic ones as well. The food was great and don't be afraid to ask for help in matching the food and wine together. The owner (Mark)is more than happy to explain his wines and recommend a particular glass for a particular dish. This is the beauty of SumBar, great wines with a food menu from around the globe all add up to a enjoyable night. Staff are friendly and courteous and there is no wait for either drinks or food. I wouldn't mind getting a job at SumBar because Mark obviously has some great staff tasting nights because the girls of SumBar know there wine and food lists back to front. All in all a great little place to go. Rear courtyard, upstairs lounge bar and the newly added footpath dining give a nice choice of where to sit, relax and dine your night away. Well done. 20/02/2009
