Oozing all the right kinds of chic, Small Bar is a very welcome addition to Crows Nest’s social, dining and vino scene. Sporting a shy entrance with the picture of a wine glass as the only hint of what awaits inside, this intimate place is a great way to while away the hours. Inside it is polished floorboards, comfortable seats, charming courtyard and smiling staff as far as the eye can see. Pick a spot – either on a couch against the raw brick wall or at a wrought iron table under the vine-covered ceiling of the back courtyard and make your selections from the food and wine menu.

Designed to pair the drinking and socialising experience, the food menu is divided into a “smalls” and “meals” section. The first of these offers selections like mini beef croquettes, liver pate, pork spring rolls and antipasto and cheese platters and can be enjoyed as tapas or, alternatively, as entrees for a more traditional two-course meal. For something more substantial, the “meals” section offers a selection of well-priced burgers and other typically pub-grub food. However the focus of Small Bar is the wine selection which travels all over Australia and overseas to offer some interesting varietals. Almost all of the wines (29 out of 35) are available by the glass and at reasonable prices. There is also a selection of spirits, beers and soft drinks to throw in a bit of variety. And on Sundays a live music act adds to the cruisy vibe.
