PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIASydney’s fast-paced lifestyle has led to a new trend in pre-prepared meals. Nothing like the stodgy TV dinners of old, today’s pre-prepared dinners and lunches are extravagant gourmet fare, cooked to delight the senses with a minimum of fuss on the part of the home-cook. Simmone Logue began her career supplying cakes to restaurants and cafes, and has expanded her focus to incorporate healthy, wholesome meals that are cooked on the premises, but are suitable to travel and be re-configured in the home kitchen.
Double Bay’s Cross Street is home to Simmone’s fourth Sydney store (with other shopfronts in Balmain, Elizabeth Bay, and Bondi Junction). The small restaurant is largely occupied by the glass-fronted counter displaying a variety of cakes, salads, pies, rolls and wraps, and other delectable goodies. In addition to the take away, the Double Bay store does a roaring lunch trade, with tables available both inside and outside on the footpath. Try the roast vegetable couscous salad or the glass noodle salad with chicken and vegetables infused with clean Asian flavours. The pies and sausage rolls are legendary, and perfect if you’re after something a little more devious than a salad, and if it’s pure indulgence you are after the cakes and slices are delicious.
