PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAIn a town where the population is inclined to party on long into the night, an important part of the recovery process is definitely a huge, hearty breakfast the next day. When it comes to sourcing said breakfast, if you’re anywhere near the vicinity of Enmore the natural choice to recharge your batteries has got to be Scrambled. Bright, airy and deceptively tiny, the majority of the seating at Scrambled spills out onto Enmore Road. The locals love it so be prepared to hang about for a table, particularly on weekends. But you can rest assured that the wait is worth it. There is no doubt that Scrambled backs the community that supports it; the walls are plastered with gig posters for the nearby Factory Theatre and local artists (and customers) have often got their pieces prettying up the walls or their tunes playing on the stereo.
Not surprisingly, eggs are the specialty here and only the free-range variety are cracked into the pan and scrambled up into giant servings. The Velvet Eggs with fresh dill, smoked salmon and cream cheese folded through are a delightfully decadent way to start your day while the Green Eggs with smoked ham and grilled tomato get their vibrant colour from a dash of fresh pesto and a nod of approval from Dr Seuss. Breakfast is all-day, though a short lunch menu is available after 11:30am offering all your usual cafe favourites, from salads to open burgers to BLAT sandwiches. Kids are well catered for with their own menu of brekkie treats to choose from, and the chai tea is something extraordinary.
