Sass Bar

This little wine bar, located on the quaint Erskinville Village strip 5 minutes walk from bustling King Street Newtown, is a well kept local secret for great food and wine that is a cut above the average fare. The food is fresh, tasty and delivered with a smile. The menu offers mostly tapas style food, in generous portions, but also has a good selection of individual meals for those who don't feel like sharing their food. We have been regulars at Sass for a while now and have enjoyed great food and service in that time. I recently held a function upstairs in the wine bar. Having made some enquiries at a few venues in the area Sass was the only place that did not charge for venue hire and we had complete use of the upstairs wine bar to decorate and theme. The bar area itself was for our private use only (no queuing)and we were assigned our own bar person. The food was diligently brought up in adequate intervals. We got to play our own itunes playlist which was an added bonus. I had a fantastic function/birthday and so did all my guests, thanks to the whole team that made it so special. I'd also like to make special mention and thanks for the complimentary piece of birthday cake i received which was such a lovely thought and that little special attention to detail that is so rare these days. Needless to say we highly recommend Sass for a function and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg in venue hire. 22/05/2008

We have been here a few times now at various times (breakfast/brunch and dinner). We find the atmosphere and feel of the place very welcoming and comfortable with many different seats and places to sit. Over and above everything though, the food here is exceptional and extremely good value. The wine list is devine with so many wines by the glass (we had fun trying a few different ones) and once again great value. We highly recommend Sass as a beautiful restaurant/bar with exceptional food and wine. 15/05/2008

I am a local of Erskineville. My partner, friends and I have supported Sass since it's beginning late last year. The initial fine dining was a bit intense and a little hard on the hip pocket to eat there every week. Mind you they have always had the most glorious wine list. A recent change to tapas has nailed it for Sass in our opinion. It is the only place to receive exceptional food in a beautiful venue with friendly staff. It is our local and we can now afford to eat there 2-3 times a week and we do. Our favourites - Seafood hot-pot, Qld wild barramundi, stuffed squid and the paella. The soup, big breakfast and cakes are pretty awesome also. The wine list is the best by far in the area and if you are celebrating ask for the reserve list or one of our favourites jug of sangria for $20 (gets 5 glasses). Must try.
