LOCATIONSantorini is located in the heart of Darlinghurst, at 227 Oxford Street.
DETAILSLike Sydney, the Greek island of Santorini is arguably one of the worlds most picturesque locations with its blue dome churches, whitewashed buildings with brightly coloured doors set against the azure Aegean sea. Paying a visit to Dimitris Restaurant is a little like stepping in to a taverna on the stunning island of Santorini, minus the beautiful ocean views- azure blue walls, checked tablecloths, Zorba music and a menu featuring Greek classics with a strong emphasis on dishes cooked on the char-grill at the front of the restaurant.
Lunch bookings available by appointment only. Santorini accepts cash, Amex and business cheque for group bookings.
FOOD & BEVERAGEThe menu offers an extensive selection of meat and seafood dishes cooked to perfection on the char-grill, along with an array of appetisers and mezethes all prepared in the authentic Greek way. The wine list features a good selection of both red and white varieties and naturally there are some Greek wines available, perfect to quaff along with your meal.
FUNCTIONSSantorini is able to cater for any occasion from birthdays, parties, christenings, weddings, Christmas functions and more lively hen`s nights and buck`s parties. The restaurant spans 2 levels and has a private dining room for more intimate functions. A variety of banquet menus are available, an ideal option for larger functions.
Profiled by de Groots MediaSantorini tries to create just a sliver of Greece in the most unlikely of settings - Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. The result of this ambitious transplant is a sky blue coat of paint, liberally hung pictures of whitewashed buildings overlooking the sea, and a rowdy atmosphere. People come to this restaurant for authentic Greek cooking, with an emphasis on meat and seafood cooked on the grill. Novices may need to be introduced to the cuisine slowly with some mezethes before even thinking of ordering some of the more intimidating items off the chargrill, like rack of lamb and whole rainbow trout.
Garlic prawns are not to be passed up, cooked in a cream sauce and flamed with metaxa brandy, while haloumi or kefalotyri cheese is panfried with ouzo and oregano. Tender grilled octopus is served simply with lemon and olive oil for minimum interference and maximum enjoyment. And with these appetisers and a glass of Greek Retsina wine or Mythos beer behind you, you`ll be ready to tackle the mains where souvlaki, moussaka and even pasta make an appearance. Veal medallions are served the Athenian way - panfried with bacon, haloumi, mushrooms and watergrass, served in a Muscat and kefalotyri sauce. To make the most of the char grill, order a mixed meat and seafood platter for two offering everything but the kitchen sink. It`s not quite refined dining, but it`s good value for a fun night out.
