Take one peek at Ripples at Milsons Point and you’ll realise that it encapsulates everything that is fabulous about dining harbourside in Sydney; fresh air, the briny smell of the water and food that is lip-smackingly good. Situated at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s northern pylon, Ripples commands such a beautiful view of the harbour and Opera House that the cafe has done away with anything that might obstruct the view, including walls. Dining at Ripples is an entirely alfresco experience, though there is a sturdy awning to shade diners from the Sydney sun and sheers can be rolled down in case the weather from Melbourne heads north.
The kitchen is housed in the former kiosk of the North Sydney Olympic Pool with Chris Harry at the helm. Ripples might be billed as a cafe, yet the food is anything but cafe fare. Harry and his team are experts at taking the freshest produce and creating restaurant quality dishes that delight as much as the view. Ripples’ waterside location lends itself to a menu with some vibrant seafood choices; the poached scallop and betel leaf salad with a Peking duck won ton doesn’t hit the deck. The same can be said for the pan-seared ocean trout with zesty coriander rice, Asian greens and chilli jam. Ripples is BYO, so don’t forget to take your favourite bottle along with you. My tip is a chilled bottle of Hunter Valley Chardonnay to go with your tempura prawns and teriyaki sauce. Early risers should pop in for the weekend breakfast; there is no better way to start your day.

FOOD
Jeff Turnbull and Chris Harry’s food celebrates the freshest produce the season has to offer. They produce substantial lunch and dinner dishes, perfect with your own favourite bottle of wine. BYO to a million dollar view.
