PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAEvery night of the week oodles of noodle-slurping converts pack into the small, sleek space of Ramen Kan in Bondi Junction. The Japanese restaurant’s interior is simple yet chic; the quartz-lined walls glitter on the fixed tables as guests perch atop black ottomans. The ideal eatery for a quick, healthy meal, Ramen Kan is open from 11.30am to 10pm every day of the week, making for a popular student and office-worker haunt.
With the woks on overdrive in the kitchen and the waitstaff scurrying about on the floor, the only part of the process that may slow you down is selecting from the extensive menu. Nibble on an assortment of entrees such as the succulent gyoza, salty edamame beans or deep-fried agedashi tofu. For mains the ramen noodle soup dishes are, of course, the most popular, but even choosing from these is a test of will. Try the tan tan ramen for a spicy union of sesame miso-flavoured ramen and pork mince, leek and chilli oil. The menu voyages from traditional soups to chicken katsu and beyond, appealing to the varied palates of its guests. If the ottomans are filled to capacity, take your piece of Ramen Kan home or make the trip to Haymarket to visit its older sister restaurant.
