PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAPerhaps it is the rustic brown leather, the sturdy mahogany tables, the sandstone bricks and the thick cuts of meat that carry a feeling of refined masculinity through Pony Lounge and Dining. The robust style is carried gracefully through the entire restaurant and embodies a sleek, modern edge that makes it a comfortable favourite with both women and men. The open air-kitchen entices diners’ appetites while the 11 metre-long, communal dining table creates conversation between strangers.
Lingering lunches are spent nestled into the coffee-coloured banquettes along with ‘Small Plates’. Favourite choices are the sashimi yellowfin tuna spring rolls, the seared sirloin dressed in soy, lime, chilli and ginger, and plates of crispy fried prawns with Szechuan spice and sweet soy. The Jimmy Thai cocktail reflects the Asian flair of these dishes - the mix of cucumber and lychee is smashed together and macerated with Hendricks gin, Lemon Z lemoncillo and house specialty Asian syrup. The combination is a flirtatious fusion of flavours.
High ceilings and the open-air kitchen let the tantalising scents of marinated meats float through the restaurant. Ironbark from the Blue Mountains burns in the Argentinean grill and gives the meats a subtle, smoky taste. All the meats are of top quality – the Angus beef is grain fed for a minimum of 120 days. They are rich with earthy flavours and served with harmonious accompaniments such as the parcel of spinach, fetta, caramalised onion and mint that flanks the lamb rump. The grills are enjoyed for their succulent and luscious qualities by a collection of corporates who loosen their ties, and recline into bench seats. Each dessert is presented with artistic elegance. The glossy, golden glass of the passionfruit brûlée cracks perfectly to reveal the sunny pudding below of light citrus notes. Pony Lounge and Dining is a refined restaurant of sophisticated charm that provides diners with an experience worth boasting about.
