LOCATIONNorth end of Bondi Beach. Behind the Surf Life Saving Club.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIABest enjoyed early in the morning and at dusk, North Bondi Sandpit sports some corker views over Bondi Beach. Oozing a somewhat healthy appeal, this breaky joint cum wine bar is just what the cafe-culture doctor ordered when it comes to tummy satisfaction. Not without its touches of cool, there are intricately stencilled artworks depicting Bondi landscapes and interesting characters splattered upon the walls, and while this cosy restaurant is decked out in dark wooden tables and chairs, the hotspots are definitely on the pavement. Missing out on these however, you’ll find yourself quite comfy on the be-cushioned banquettes or the bar stools which look out towards the ocean.
For a delightful start to your day, tuck into the ever-popular zucchini corn fritters with poached eggs and tomato relish, or a veggie breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs and home-made hash browns. Add a wicked coffee and you’re set for the day. The lunch menu steers guests into the afternoon with juicy steak sandwiches, fresh salads and cleansing ales. And when the sun sets over the Bondi Hotel, the Sandpit becomes a little hive of people who sip upon red wine while knifing into wedges of cheese, or share slices of thin-crusted pizza with a bottle of crisp white. Using moreish ingredients such as prosciutto, goat’s cheese, figs and anchovies, each hand-made pie is served upon a wooden chopping board perfect for passing along the table. Everyone needs a friendly local that has it all, and Sandpit ticks a lot of boxes.
