Opened on the corner of Pitt and Goulburn in April 2009, Maloney’s Hotel serves traditional Irish comfort food in a casual setting. Feeding the lunch and dinner crowd from 12pm to 10pm every day, choose from the modern Australian bistro menu or heartier Irish offerings. Inside, dark Tasmanian wood and deep red walls meet a bar brimming with all the popular favourites. Recline in a cosy armchair or perch on an ottoman, and watch the city traffic scurry on by as you ponder your dining decisions.

Order a few share plates to quell the appetite and sit back with a cleansing ale or glass of wine. Choose from salt and pepper calamari, dips with Turkish bread and plates loaded with green lip New Zealand mussels. Pizzas, sandwiches and salads are ideal for lunch-time noshing, or feast on heartier dinner options from the modern pub menu. A main of oven-roasted blue-eye cod sits atop caramelised eggplant, garlic and tomatoes, or enjoy a grilled Tasmanian salmon fillet with seasonal vegetable risotto. The grill menu sees the likes of 300g New York sirloins and smoky, barbecue lamb ribs, or ask the staff about daily specials. The highlight of the menu is clearly “the Irish corner”, offering the heart-warming, rib-sticking, comfort food that Ireland is famed for. Bite into a bulging beef and Guinness pie, a hearty Irish stew, or bangers and mash with onion gravy. Irish potato pancakes also make a suitable beer companion, or choose from the extensive range of cocktails, carafes and wines.
